Dr Glaphyra actually gets excited about creating the most natural looking restorations which are able to withstand the forces you place on them.
When is a filling needed?
When there is caries (decay) present in the tooth. It can present as a cavitation or we can confirm loss of tooth structure with an x-ray.
We will remove the softened tooth structure and then fill the cavity with a composite resin filling.
When you have broken or chipped a part of the tooth and it needs to be built back up.
A filling is an option when the tooth surface has worn down due to abrasion or abfraction, especially if you are experiencing sensitivity.
When an old filling needs replacement
if there is evidence that it is failing
if there is decay underneath the existing filling
if there are cracks and shadowing around an existing filling which may or may not be symptomatic
